I wasn't sure how I'll feel about Madrid when I first decided to visit. Going to a big city is not really my idea of a perfect vacation. I was worried about the crowds, traffic and all that stress that city living can bring. My fears disappeared the very first day. It is one of the most fun places I've ever visited! The city is beautiful and has preserved it's history in palaces, buildings and streets. And oh, the nightlife! Madrid is truly the city that never sleeps. You stay up till the sun rises and just go from one place to another while tasting the best food and indulging in fine wine. People are warm and kind and streets are always busy at any time of day or night, which makes you feel more secure. While I was there I developed a new addiction - to churros, fried pastry that you dip into thick hot chocolate. Delicious!
My lucky friend Rachel who lives in Madrid was my guide. My days were filled with long walks, sunshine and good people. We took it easy and explored the city by foot and subway. Highlights were the two day trips we took outside of Madrid. One to Toledo, wonderful old hill town and the other to El Escorial, once a residence to Spanish kings. Enjoy more beautiful captures below.
